 Bring Me My Money

This weekend was going to be a massive weekend for sports. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. With my favorite teams playing in massive games this weekend, I needed to protect my emotions, and there was only one way to do that. You are betting against your team! Think about it. You watch your favorite team week in and week out just to be let down at some point in the season. How do you avoid that? You begin to hedge your bets by betting against your team. I know this sounds wild and like such a risk, but it is a win-win situation if you think about it.

I will use myself as an example. USC was playing against Penn St. We all know how big this game was going to be for the school. Everyone was going to be at the game, and there were so many emotions involved. How heartbreaking would it be to go and spend your time and money and not have a positive outcome one way or another? So, rightfully, I ensured my time was worth it and placed a generous bet to protect my feelings because they were way more critical. Now that it is Sunday, we all know the results, and as I saw the rest of the USC crowd leaving with their heads hung low, I was taking my girlfriend to get us a delicious smoothie with some of my winnings.

Let me walk you through how to do this properly so you are using your money effectively. By the way, this is not financially smart or stable, so doing this should be done responsibly. So now, back to the program: Choose any of your favorite teams and look at their schedule and most formidable opponents. Continue with the USC trend, and let's look at the remainder of their schedule. UCLA is their most prominent game for the remainder of the season. If you think about it, they destroyed us last year, and we know it will also be a tight race this year. So, how do we protect our emotions as we head to the Rose Bowl to watch this heated rivalry? We bet for UCLA, secure our feelings, and if we get stomped again, well, at least now, we can pay for dinner and a few drinks to drown our sorrows.

  1. Hey Alex, this is a great strategy that I should start enforcing. I always get extremely sad when I bet on my team and they lose. The biggest that comes to mind was my $XXXX bet on last year's Super Bowl when my Niners played the Chiefs, and we all know what happened there.....

  2. Alex, I really enjoyed the readability and creative tone that you took in your random post. You can tell that you have a strong interest in sports as well as sports betting. I don't know much about sports betting, but I do know that it is important to not only bet on the teams that you are emotionally attached to! So that was smart to note.

  3. smart to know that even if you like USC football sometimes the other team is the Favorite and instead of you betting with your emotions, you thought smart and went for the easy money. If it was me, I would do the same.

  4. Alex, this is a great strategy. I will say, that betting on your favorite team and winning is an unmatched feeling. Unfortunately, it feels like that outcome happens once in a blue moon. After reading your post, I am considering implementing this strategy. Thinking broadly, this strategy could potentially play outside of the sports realm. Have you thought about betting against the presidential candidate that you are voting for me?
